bonehead reading list

With all there is to read and digest you probably feel overwhelmed and totally confused about where to begin. Don't Panic!! We are here for you! Take a look at this month's selections. Not exactly new and hot off the press, but some you may have overlooked.

  • Make It So, Leadership Lessons From Star Trek The Next Generation  by Wess Roberts and Bill Ross  You no doubt have heard the "F" word used often. No, not that one, but, Focus! You will learn that and more in this book. However, if you are not familiar with the TV show much will be lost.

  • The Death Of Competition by James F. Moore Business thinking is shifting and Moore brings out some important thoughts. “The economy is not a mechanism; businesses are not machines. They are coevolving; unpredictable organisms with in a constantly changing ecosystem that no one controls."

  • Global Dreams by Richard J Barnet and John Cavanagh Globalization” is one of those buzzwords you hear thrown around. But, what does it really mean? Well, the Rockefeller 'New World Order' comes to mind in this book as well as the new new age we are entering in manufacturing. Several world dominating contract manufactures are here and out to assimilate you. Though, not mentioned, you can read the book and think about Solectron, Celestica, Sanmina-SCI, Jabil, Flextronics and others to see where we are going and where we should be. Scary stuff at times, but . . .

  • Following The Equator by Mark Twain  Sept. 5. Closing in on the equator this noon. A sailor explained to a young girl that the ship’s speed is poor because we are climbing the bulge towards the center of the globe; but that when we should once get over, at the equator, and start down hill, we should fly . .."  Sounds logical to me. But . . . Like many things in business – let’s think about it for a minute. Does it really make sense? Globalization is a fact. As Mark tells you about his lecture tour and travels around the world, he just may have some unique and interesting thoughts for you to use in your own worldly business dealings.
